Sculptor-Engraver
United States Mint
Alfred Maletsky was born in Easton, Pennsylvania in 1943. He
holds a certificate from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts,
where he studied painting, sculpture and graphics. He also
studied at the John Hussian School of Art in Philadelphia.
After leaving art school in 1969, Mr. Maletsky joined the
advertising art department of the Philadelphia Evening Bulletin
for six years.
In 1976, after completing a trial medallic sculpture and
several months of free-lance work, Mr. Maletsky joined the
Franklin Mint as a sculptor. For the next sixteen years, he
sculpted coin of the realm for the British Virgin Islands,
medals depicting renowned works of art, and commemorative medals
of U.S. presidents, historic events and various public figures.
Although he left his staff position with the Franklin Mint in
1992, Mr. Maletsky continued to freelance for them, designing
and sculpting medals. He also sculpted a number of freelance
porcelain and crystal pieces for Lenox.
In July 1993, Mr. Maletsky joined the staff of the United
States Mint in Philadelphia as a Sculptor-Engraver.
